Another heart-breaker for the Trojans this past Thursday. In the beginning of the 1st quarter it seemed as though for every offensive opportunity we missed UCSB had one work out for them. We went down 4 points in the 1st and it proved to be a deficit that we just couldn’t recover from.

It wasn’t as though we didn’t try. We put on a hell of a run all the way up until the final seconds of the game. In fact, if we could eliminate the first quarter, the Trojans would’ve been the ones with the victory.

Jeff Barton was a key reason for our turn-around after the first quarter. Bartronics made some saves that were so difficult for my brain comprehend that my head hurt. Jeff was doing some serious Circus Olay stuff firing up the defense and even us on attack. We started dominating the ride game so heavily I thought the UCSB coach was going to have a hernia.

Our offense began producing but truly turned it on once we started looking for goals off the crease. Though he went scoreless the past two games Avery Brovick really turned it on when he knew we needed him late in the game. So with less than two minutes left in game when I spotted ‘Ravery’ for the star pass I didn’t hesistate. And neither did he. He fired a righty ripper that gave him a hat trick and put us down one with just about a minute left in the game.

A great defensive stop and a full field dime of a pass got us the ball back for us to put this one into OT. Though we made a great effort, the W just wasn’t in the cards for us as the uphill battle finally proved to be too steep.

Though the playoffs are out of the picture, the SC Lax crew has a game tomorrow against University of San Diego we plan using as a little frustration therapy. After we get that win, we have a game we’ve been pumped about all season: UCLA at home.

Look forward to post about a W against them, too.

Our Wednesday game against Clairemont was one of those unfortunate games when the score did not match effort we put in. The Trojan Offense was granted plenty of scoring opportunities, but Clairemont’s goalie had an outstanding game coupled with the fact that we hit more pipes than a frustrated plumber. Once again, the Trojan Defensive played extremely aggressive throughout the game and made a couple huge stops during man-down efforts. Though I’m not sure how, Clairemont did get a few shots off; however, Jeff Barton played pretty lights out. He let in only 2 goals with 2:00 left in the game.

And then the whole team sat out for three goals because we felt bad for how badly we were crushing Clairemont on their home field. Because the SC Lax team is not only a bunch of scholars, but we’re also an organization gentlemen.

Clairemont was a mild awakening for what we have in store for us when Chapman comes to town. We have a steady week of work ahead of us. Though the odds are stacked against us, come Thursday, the Trojans will be prepared to scrap, sweat, bleed, and fight on!

It’s taken me three days to write this update quite simply because I couldn’t figure out where to begin. The SC Lax team played a dominant game in every aspect on Friday.

The Offense riddled Fullerton’s goalie putting in 14 goals. We also played the best possession offense of the season. Whenever we control the ball our offense is guaranteed to make great things happen.

The ‘D’ shut them down. The only goals allowed were unsettled garbage goals or a rare man-up goal. Other than that, the Defense was on track to hospitalize somebody with their aggressive play all game.

All three goalies made an appearance and each one proved their worth. Carter even proved that no one can score on him better than he can. He saved a ball and then continued to save it into the back of the net as he fell into the cage. You gotta respect the commitment.

I don’t know if they put something in the water or in that rice crispy treat I got from a fan before the game, but the team really brought it together. Friday, no doubt, was the best team win we’ve had so far. With the playoffs looming, I’m confident that we can carry this momentum into our game two days from now against Clairemont.

The Trojan lacrosse team has been forced to keep its win-streak on hold for a few weeks due to crazy amounts of rain in southern California. Someone needs to get Al Gore on the phone and let him know that global warming has just gotten serious: it’s affecting lacrosse.

People of America hear me when I say the climate is out of control. Innocent college lacrosse players are being denied their freedom to play lacrosse. Citizens, it would appear America has a new enemy. We’re being terrorized by Mother Nature.

The climate alert has just been updated to an orange, almost red level. It’s kinda like a burnt orange. Or a sunset-esk amount of terror.

Which is ironic because things are far from sunny! We must come together and solve the climate crisis before lacrosse remains a victim of of Mother Nature forever. I pray the Lax Gods her something for Valentine’s Day…

It was a stat rat’s weekend at the Texas A&M tournament this weekend. The SC offense came out bangin’ mad G’s scoring 18,16, 11; in our games against Kansas, Baylor, and A&M respectively. Our defense put in even more effort than our offense. The D killed all kinds of man-down situations. Yes, we’re still having problems with penalties. But the average is slowing dropping. So that’s a plus. Honestly though, I think the MCLA just needs to add some flexibility to the rules to account for our beastitude.

Kase Lawal topped off the weekend with an OT game winner against Texas A&M; and it was almost too perfect. Only a few minutes into OT Kase had the ball at the top of the box and we all knew what was coming. The stars had aligned: it was his home state, his parents were at the game, he’s a captain, he’s a senior, and he has the dirtiest split dodge on the team. Just about everyone on the SC sidelines had their hands in the air before Kase even shot. It was a great way to wrap up the weekend.

As for Texas itself, we have all been pleasantly surprised by what the Great State has to offer. Unfortunately, the weather was a little cooler than we had hoped for. So the only usage of Daisy Dukes was kept secret. The sun was definitely out, though. Half of our team looks like stop signs. We all needed to start our spring-break base anyway.

A special thanks goes out to all the parents and relatives of the team that fed us to point of explosion. We all appreciate the hospitality so much. I think we can attribute the wins this weekend to being so well nourished. Thank you.

I’ve been pacing my room for the past hour trying to figure out why we lost to LMU this past Saturday. Talent definitely was not the issue. Yes, they’re ranked higher than us but we hung with them almost the entire game. Sure we had some trouble defeating their ten-man ride and yeah, we allowed ourselves, again, to be man-down more than we would’ve liked, but we owe the loss to something greater. I’m blaming the loss against LMU to team dissonance.

There’s been a heated debate among the team for almost two weeks now and it’s tearing us apart. There’s been yelling, fighting, stick throwing, even graphs and pie charts have been made in effort to try and explain who’s the hottest 2010 Sport Illustrated swimsuit model. No one can come to an agreement. It’s utter chaos.

I happen to think Melissa Satta takes the cake with her painted on Italian soccer jersey. Her swimsuit is painted on and that barely does her body justice. The woman is flawless. I challenge you to flip to that page and not feel immediate primal rage towards her boyfriend, ex-Italian striker, Christian Vieri. Dude plays soccer! Scratch that; played soccer. Come on! What does he have that I don’t? Looks? Na, there’s a picture of him. Millions? I’m working on that. Athletic prowess? I’m an SC Laxer!

I just don’t get women, man.

On the airplane back to L.A. we still couldn’t escape the excitement from the win over University of Washington. John Duddridge finished the game with 4 goals, 3 assists; but the greatest part about this win was that we played strong all across the field. Midfielder, Matt Williams, came up clutch with under a minute to go with the game winner, and Alex Rice proved he not only has ‘ice’ in his name but ice in his veins saving a last second shot attempt by the Huskies. Our only weakness was mental mistakes, allowing ourselves to be man-down far more than we would have liked. We were multiple men down on more than one occasion. Even on the flight home.

The tournament was a great way to start off the season and the Washington game was a great way to head into our conference game this weekend against LMU.

Make sure to watch Sean White take home gold this week. Go USA.

Greetings from Seattle, Washington.

The Lax Gods wept today (or maybe it was just the crappy Seattle weather) as the Trojans lost against the OSU Beavers.

With the excitement of the Avatar DVD wearing off, the team turned its focus towards today’s game. The Trojans came out firing scoring six goals in the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter we continued to get good shots off but couldn’t put them in the back of the net. Going into the second half the score was tied, 6-6.

The fourth quarter we recovered from our offensive slump and tied the Beavers 10-10. But just like Apolo Ono, we just couldn’t bring home the gold.

The good news is Will Purvis’s attempt at a mustache is coming in much more cleanly than anticipated. We’re hoping that’ll be a great intimidation tool for the second middy line. And with yours truly suffering a still painful collarbone injury, lefty attackman Jack Buntmann is getting his debut start against Washington tomorrow. He sadly, can’t grow facial hair, but is known to be an artist with eye-black. So he’s got his intimidation on lock.

Go USA!
